Is Exercise the Best Drug for Depression?

Run, walk, stretch, whatever it takes. Just do something! Here’s why

Sure a six-pack is nice. And yes, losing weight feels great.

I encourage you to consider this, exercise is equally beneficial to the mind as it is to the body.

Study after study confirms that physical activity positively affects our mental health. The more you workout and the higher the intensity ––– the greater the brain food.

Exercise has been shown to decrease your vulnerability to mental disorders. The link is so strong that prescribing exercise for depression in lieu of and or in addition to medications.

Exercise releases several chemicals in the brain, including endorphins that [feel good] brain chemical that eases depression, according to researchers at the Mayo Clinic.

Bottom line: exercise activity on most days of the week can improve symptoms associated with anxiety and depressing disorders about as much as medication.
