Why anyone would want to ride the subway in Russia is one of life’s unsolved mysteries, but, at least commuters in Moscow have the option of not paying for a ticket. Well, not in cash, anyway: Riders entering at the Vystavochnaya station can earn a free one-way trip by doing 30 squats in lieu of paying the usual 92¢. Participants have two minutes to perform the physical feat in front of a special machine that can tell if they’re doing the deep the deep knee bends correctly.

The promotion was designed to promote physical fitness and the upcoming Winter Olympics in Sochi.

How often do you intentionally take the stairs instead of the elevator?
